It was fabulous to end our first full year of singing post covid at our fave Christmas venue, Curly's on the Boardwalk. Lots of fun, laughter, singing, dress ups and games made for a wonderful finale to our choir year. We're all looking forward to a lovely holiday to ready ourselves for another year of vocal and community sharing in 2023.
Cool Harmonies farewelled yet another one of our beautiful choir members last Tuesday when we came together to celebrate the life of Pat Kelly.
Pat and her husband Bill joined Cool Harmonies back in 2007, and were with us for many years until they were both diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease. Pat was an accomplished pianist and accompanied us on a number of songs, as well as performing some beautiful solos with her sweet sounding soprano voice. She was a very graceful and gracious woman with a strong sense of community and social justice. She also had the wickedest sense of humour and a smile that would light up the room when she entered. A number of us were able to attend her funeral and it was an honour to sing a few of her favourite songs. Pat and Bill are now together, singing those luscious harmonies along with the angels. Our love and heartfelt whooshes go out to Pat’s family. She will be dearly missed. After two long years of waiting, we were finally able to get together to share in some fun and frivolity at our fabulous Singsational Sunday. We shared a whole day filled with laughter, smiles, silly games and of course blissful and harmonious singing. Moments like these are such a joy as they allow us to reconnect, and for our wonderful newcomers, make new friends, so thank you to everyone for being part of this special day.
Our magnificent Cool Harmonies team of Fran, June, Rochelle, Libby, Carolyn, Libby and Sharron rocked the River Stage in Brisbane with a thousand other singers, belting out the brilliant four-part arrangement of Vanessa Amorosi’s popular hit ‘Absolutely everybody’. This Queensland Music Festival initiative organised by Jonathon Welch and Emma Dean was a wonderful way to bring community singers back together again after such a long time apart and the whole event was captured on video. Can’t wait to see our girls in the final cut who not only looked fabulous but sounded spectacular too.
It wouldn't be Christmas without our annual lunch at Curly's on the Boardwalk. We gathered to share the merriment after being socially distanced most of the year and look forward to more groovy harmonies in 2021. Photos: Tina Stubbs.
What a strange year it's been for our wonderful Cool Harmonians. From Zoom sessions to outdoor singing venues and now to a new spacious hall. But we’re back and we couldn’t be happier! Social distancing is a bit of a challenge as is singing in smaller numbers, but being able to gather together again to create luscious harmonies is truly magnificent - in fact so brilliant we are all laid back, relaxed and ‘Feeling Good’ ... could that be a cue for our latest song?
Who said you can’t sing and social distance at the same time? Despite the current restrictions, Cool Harmonies members have still been gathering together as a choir every week, singing up a virtual storm, creating lovely luscious sounds, and having heaps of fun and laughter in the process. Our first week was extra special as we had our first international participant Emma joining us from New Zealand! Nothing’s gonna stop this gorgeous bunch of singers, and we’ll continue doing what we all love doing online, until we can get back together again in the hall. Lucky for us we managed to get together for our bi-annual retreat the week before we went into lockdown - phew! As usual there was lots of fun and merriment over the weekend with a jam-packed program that included singing, eating, dancing, a raucous ABBA themed movie night, meditation, silly games, cabaret acts, a highly charged Trivia Quiz, singing, eating, dancing, and- just to finish it off - more singing in the amphitheatre. The two days always fly by so fast and our wonderful Cool Harmonies family once again took away many special memories of happy times together. Photos: Tina Stubbs |
